BUILDING INSPECTOR (CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Building Inspectors usually certified in one or more disciplines qualifying them to make professional judgment about whether a building meets building code requirements. A building inspector may be certified either as a residential or commercial building inspector, as a plumbing, electrical or mechanical inspector, or other specialty-focused inspector who may inspect structures at different stages of completion.

Graduates will be ready for entry-level employment as Building Inspectors within local building departments. With additional education and experience, this certificate can help advance their careers. COAP Accreditation can open doors to roles as a building code administrator. Possible career opportunities:

PROGRAM INFORMATION

LENGTH OF PROGRAM

Students typically complete this program in one year. An estimated 30 weeks/300 hours.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must be at least 18 years of age upon registration.
  • Students must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma upon registration.
  • Prerequisites: COAP Year 1 or Dual Enrollment

WABO Code Official Accreditation Program emphasizes the development of a broad skill set that enhances both professional effectiveness and personal interactions. Upon completing the Building Inspector Program, successful students will be able to:

  • Navigate portions of the International Property Maintenance Code and International Building Code.
  • Describe common fundamental inspection activities that support excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct research, analyze data and clearly report results related to code requirements, materials, and methods of construction.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills appropriate to a variety of modes and circumstances.
  • Describe how knowledge, experience, confidence, and attitude affect inspector efficiency and accuracy; and customer service and satisfaction.
