WABO Earthquake Home Retrofit Seminar - CANCELED

Due to the passing of ESSB5814 effective October 1, 2025 WABO is required to collect destination based sales tax on live presentations including, but not limited to, lectures, seminars, workshops, or courses where participants attend either in-person or via the internet or telecommunications equipment that allows audience members and the presenter or instructor to give, receive, and discuss information with each other in real time.

City of Shoreline - 10.4% sales tax is included with the base rate of registration.

WABO will once again sponsor this important professional training program for builders and contractors. Earthquake Home Retrofit Training provides a consistent, approved approach to the seismic retrofit of older, wood-frame, single-family homes that conforms to the prescriptive Project Impact Plan Set application limitations. If you know any contractors who might be interested in attending, please pass on the information.

This seven-hour seminar course was developed in collaboration with Seattle Emergency Management (Project Impact) and includes the 2021 Plan Set Update. The training enables builders and contractors to enhance their skills and expand their business into a new area. Participants receive extensive materials as part of the course. Contractors who complete this course will be given the option of having their names made available to homeowners via the WABO Earthquake Home Retrofit Page.

This seminar will provide background of seismicity of the Puget Sound Region and will discuss vulnerable types of buildings and their elements. The training will also discuss basic lateral design concepts, proper construction of resisting elements, regulating codes, and standards. This course will focus on retrofitting small wood framed residential buildings and methods to upgrade existing lateral resisting elements; such as diagrams, shear walls, pony walls, and concrete foundation connections.

Target Audience: Builders and Contractors

Certificates: All attendees who complete the training will receive a Certificate of Completion and 0.7 ICC Preferred Provider CEU's. Attendees must sign the attendance roster in order to receive the certificate. All certificates will be emailed within 30 days of class.
